When I bought the palace I took it to an RV shop for a complete systems check and from there to a service center for the usual flush and fill,  new filters and fluid checks. Tonight I took her in for a rear axle flush and fill. belts replaced and just a good old fashioned once over before I hit the road. I have a 3 day trip to Mid Ohio race car coerce in June and I'm planning on a week trip to Delaware Dam or Alum Creek Reservoir in central Ohio the week after Memorial day. I'm not  having any problems with  anything but just wanted that  extra level of confidence.

Rich, Im the POSTER CHILD of preventive maintenance. If you install all new belts and hoses, have a good battery and connections, install new filters, proper aired up tires, check all fluid levels, have radiator flushed and cleaned, you eliminate many of the road problems. GOOD GOING

But one must be prepared for Murphy, we had all new belts, starter, etc. before our trip to MT last year, in the course of the trip we broke down 4 times, once for the serpentine belt that broke, 2 starters, and one brake line hose (also new) with a pin hole leak in it.  So being prepared is a must, but it is not a total guarantee of no problems.

P.M. is the name of the game for any of us old retired mechanics, or any one who depends on machinery for a living. Transferring that to my Motor Home was a no brainier especially seeing the results of the PO's efforts. One thing I would add is to go the extra yard and by quality parts. That's easy for those who do there own work but, when left to a shop make sure to demand to see the parts going on your investment. A lot of shops even brand name car dealers like to hit up Autozones and others for parts and often use the cheapest option. I'm not saying you can't get good parts there but often you get a selection of good, better and best. Good is best for their bottom line but not for you or your rig. Vigilance is the key.
