My wife and I just acquired this beauty and have decided to get her back on the road. We may have saved it from the scrap yard. What the heck, it was free not counting the near $200 to get her home.

We are on a tight budget and will be doing the vast majority of the work with reclaimed, used/scrounged and refurbed materials and parts.

Looking forward to the project and excited to find this valuble resourse to assist and document the endeavor.

The 400 M get's HORRIBLE fuel mileage.

I have had a lot of em in 4x4 Vans.

The 400 M and 351 M blocks were the same height as the 460 block, but much shorter in length from front to back then the 460.  They were the same length as the 351 Cleveland and other Ford small blocks.  It was an attempt to create a "smaller" big block.  They also were able to use the 351 Cleveland head that they had designed, after discontinuing the original early 351C.

Don't know if y'all did the repower yet, but an idea for ya is to check the Goodwill and Salvation Army Auto Auctions in your area, if you guys have anything like that near your town...

The Goodwill Auto Auction here in Columbus usually has at least one motorhome on the list, every time they have an auction. 

The last time we went over there and looked, our local GW Auction had a 1990-something Gulfstream 32 footer, it was in sorry cosmetic/structural shape (it apparently lived under a tree most of it's life, so the sides were de-laminating and the roof-edge seams were SHOT) 

BUT... it only had 29,000 miles on it, was an injected 454 with a 480LE auto, it ran and drove GREAT...

The whole shootin' match sold for $275.00!!!!

We were going to bid on it, and use the motor and trans to repower our Travco 320... but somehow FORGOT to go to the auction on the day it happened! Dernit.

Anyhoo... like I said, they usually have at least one motorhome at our local auction, they're usually super-low mileage, and they usually sell for a song.

The upside to it would be that you'd not only get a "new" engine, but more than likely a "new" generator, plumbing, cabinets, furniture, beds, tires, wheels, etc...

Just wanted to give you guys that idea, maybe it'd help.
