I see Cristina and Pat Paul removed the gas tank from their Allegro recently. I'd like to hear more about that. My fuel sender does not work, and based on all of the odometer readings scrawled all over the cab in pencil I suspect it hasn't worked since about 25,000 miles.
When I first got the rig I had to cut a hole in the floor to replace the rubber fuel lines as they had dry rotted. At that time I thought I'd take the opportunity to replace the fuel sender. Unfortunately, the sender is directly beneath the bathroom wall so I could not cut enough floor out to remove it. That means I have to drop the tank.
I removed both straps and the tank appears to be wedged up in there pretty good - it wouldn't drop. Even worse, I don't see how it would drop out anyway with the filler neck on it. I can only get at the filler neck clamps through a hole in the floor, which has now been patched and covered with new, Pergo laminate. I guess I can continue to live without the sender but it would be nice to fix it.
The fuel tank on my M-30 is under the rear bedroom. I've seen it in other places, though, like on my friend's 27-footer it's mounted mid-ship.

Yes. we put 4 floor jacks under 2 pieces of 2x6 to hold the tank up while removing straps. disconnect the longer rubber hoses from out and return etc.. there are 2 that feed through the frame passenter side... the fill tube rubber connect needs removed (we actually used a hunk of radiator hose to replace that as had nothing else on hand and it fit perfect. but we started lowering it then had to push the tank to driver side against rail to get fill port space for rest of lowering it. it was a push and shove deal. and yes mine too is right under bathroom wall.
I calculate mileage every tank since I've had her so know from here to Breezewood over the appalachians I get 6.4 and there to Ohio get 7.4 about on a normal running trip. I usually plan to stop every 250 miles or so. I've gotten as low as 3.2mpg driving in snow 34F etc but had naked KN that did not have hot air return so carb had icing issues...
Thanks. I'll have to take a closer look at mine and see whether dropping the tank is worth the effort. The other issue I have is the generator stops running at about 1/2-3/4 tank. I've read that the pickup tube is probably has holes in it. The rubber lines to the tank are new.
I still need to find a way to get the Allegro up to my new house. I'm fairly confident that scraping on my new, steep driveway would be minimal. The real issue is turning it around once it's up here. I've had a couple of tree guys out here and taking out the trees that are in the way is going to be very expensive. Working on a Plan B
