hot water on demand

So we haven't had hot water sense we bought the rv. To me it hasn't been a big deal, but my wife and daughter would like a warm/hot shower. I can't leave well enough alone and just replace it with a drop in water heater. I can't see spending that kind of money on a 6-10 gal water heater. So I came up with a setup that will allow me to hook up a hot water on demand camping shower inline were the old water heater was. We haven't used the system yet at camp but so far it has gone just as thought it would. Has anyone else added this kind of system and if so how did you hook it up. Our is hooked up so when you turn the hot water on anywhere in the coach you will get it from the tap.

Sounds interesting.  

Is it something you rigged for inside?  I know they have some for that -  or do you set it up outside for hooking up when you get there?  Propane?

I've thought to add one because the 6 gal we had on our Bounder was nice for dishes but neither of us were crazy about military showers, we always preferred the public facilities when faced with option.  Having one inline would be really nice.  If you can post some pics and what you did...?

This is an outdoor setup that you hook up when you get to camp. It runs off the onboard propane system with a quick disconnect setup. I posted some photos of the work I have done to make it work. Once everything is 100% finished with paint and any other hardware I might add I will post more photos.

Got it, thanks.  So that's like and intake and outtake to the tankless, just open the taps and it works just like the indoor pressure through the pipes work?  This would be both shore fed or pumped from the tanks?  

Maybe that's a dumb question but it seems so simple...and in my experience nothing is EVER simple.

Never a dumb question. And you are correct that is one faucet for the water going to the tankless and one returning to the coach. It does work on both the onboard fresh water tank and city water.

Dawn, This is what it looks like hooked up. Nice easy and quick. Of course we do not have the option of have hot water while we are moving. But we turn the propane off while we are on the road anyway.

When our old hot water heater finally gave up the ghost after replacing every part of it over the years, we went with a Girard Gen2 tankless on demand hot water heater.  Came out to about the same cost as getting a new traditional hot water heater, was easy to install, drops into the stock location, and works incredibly well.  Its a learning curve using it, since you adjust the hot water by the knobs AND the flow rate, but once you get used to it, its great!  Endless hot water!  And...for us this was important as fulltime RVers...we use over 60% less propane a month than we used to.
