So when I posted a pic of me driving the Allegro, Philip asked what the box by my left leg was. He thought it might be a CB. Good guess, but it wasn't. I got to thinking, though. The old CB crapped out at the end of last season. I got a new one and installed it today. When I took the pic it was on scan mode, and stopped on channel 6 where some nut job is always on an anti-government rant. It was also 6:x6 o'clock. So the picture captured a 6-6-6. Weird and not intentional!

Like the Radio ! I'm going to install my 2950 in mine . I hope it still work ben a while ! Lol

There was an old one in it when I first got it but it quit working. I missed it so I replaced it.

I have to admit I didn't know a lot about them. Just figured you hook up the antenna and away you go. Apparently you need to tune the antenna. The manual also said operating it with too much SWF will destroy the radio. The new one has a SWF meter and it was off the charts, I think due to a bad connection at the antenna. I rewired it and re-ran the diagnostics and it's okay now. Maybe that's what baked the old radio.

Well do we have any handles out there ? Blu ace here.

I don't, but I figured I'd go with what we call the rig: Dead Metal.

Make sure the Antennea is GROUNDED or you will get sporatic feed back,,,,radio cooker for sure..

My *handle is THUMPER,,(lol)  Have had that sinse 1974,,,, old c/b rat.  Its always a good idea to have a c/b radio when traveling,, Cell signal isnt 100% everywhere yet,,, a so called secondary means of communications...

Thump,Thump,Thumping on down the road. (and not always cuz the tire is flat)

Yes - the manual said to make sure it was grounded properly. I used a multi-meter to check for ground from the antenna mount to the end of the cable where it goes into the CB. It was ok. The hot side, however, had a lot of resistance from corrosion where the ring terminal mounted to the base of the antenna. I took it off and cleaned it up. Ran the diagnostics again and both the antenna test and the transmit test passed. I still had to back the SWF down so there might be more work to do there.

If your antenna is mounted to a fiberglass body make sure you have a base loaded antenna. Usually they will be marked with a yellow band at the base of the antenna or something similar. There is no ground plane in fiberglass so the antenna's are built different.

I don't even turn mine on anymore since all that is on there is Mexicans and Indian truckers running 500 watt linears and blasting everyone else off the radio. Plus they bleed over four bands in each direction. And the ones speaking English every other word begins with F, I am far from a prude being a bouncer for years but neither I not the wife feel like listening to it on a trip.

I have absolutely no problems with legal immigrants from anywhere. THEY pay taxes!  And as far as Native Americans................. They were here first, This is their country!!!! Does that tell you how I fell about that? I dated a full blooded Cherokee girl back in the 70's and I got to see how the Native Americans are treated on the reservations. You hear all these chants from all these ethnic groups about how they are discriminated against every day on TV. When was the last time you heard about the Native Americans being discriminated against? You don't because it is the federal govt. doing the discriminating. They supposedly give all kinds of money to the Indians, yea, they give it to the BIA who pockets it and distributes it among the rich nations in the gaming industry. Ask the people out in Nevada or Wyoming or the Dakotas how rich they are?

Sorry for the rant, That is a real sore subject for me.

So I went out last night to move it around a bit (the ramps were starting to sink). I opened the driver door and there was a bit of resistance. Before I could figure out why it SNAPPED open - when the cable for the CB antenna broke. While I was fiddling with it, I pulled the slack through from the outside. I needed to go back inside and pull some slack back through to allow the door to open. I didn't. Oops. So I'll be rewiring that antenna again but this time I need to fish the wire through the tiny hole in the door. Should be fun. At least there's like 75 feet of cable coiled up under the dash. Lots of room for error.

Man, it has been a long time since I worked on CB's but I do remember that there is a set length of cable from the radio to the antenna. If you have that much cable then that may have been part of your matching issues. If it broke not far from the antenna end just pull it through and put a new end on it and screw it back onto the antenna. Check your match and see if it got better or worse. If it got better then you may be able to tune it at the antenna but if it got worse you really need to get the right length of cable.

I was thinking that, too. The length of the cable is going to offer up some resistance. The SWF is either going to get better or worse when I hack off the broken piece and re-connect it. Interesting stuff. I'll post back when I fix it.
