If you change to roller lifters there is no need for the upper oiler add on. Roller lifters is the way to go. Also think about TBI fuel injection. I added it to my 360 dodge and it is the best thing that I could have done to my rebuild. It would add about $1,100.00 to the cost but WELL worth it.
God Bless
Thanks Rich looks like I'll be pulling a motor it is a 454 rebuilding is a snap done plenty of them back in the day mostly SBC but getting it out of the MH will be a bear. God Bless Gary
I'm with Jack on this one, old motors and modern oils don't play well together, Modern oils don't hang around the cam because the EPA got rid of ZDDP (Zink & Phosphorus) that is necessary for non roller tappet motors to lubricate the surface between the tappet ( lifter) and the cam, wiping the cam and spreading metal paste throughout the engine. Rebuild and add the oilier as Jack mentioned and find a high zddp content oil such as a racing oil OR add a product that contains ZDDP such as Rislone 3X concentrate or other ZDDP additive. Follow directions on the bottles. and use a good quality non detergent oil. Modern motors went to roller lifters to eliminate the friction problem on the cam so the modern oils work well with them. However I just spent the day pulling the heads off my G M C pick up because of a bad roller lifter, Not Fun. I will say that with 160-K the motor internals are as clean as they possibly could be, but one out of 16 lifters still failed. Go Figure. good luck with your motor.
Thanks for the advise Jack the motor only has 54,000 on it but your right about the rebuild. What is the oiler for the cam you mentioned. Thanks God Bless
