Hi Good Old RVers,

I'm replacing the whole water system in my 1965 Layton. I know it is important to install a filtering system for the fresh water tank, probably at the point before it goes through the shower and faucets. I've been looking for filtering systems but I'm not sure what is it exactly that I need. My idea is to filter sediments before the tank is filled, so I mostly need a filtering system to take care of microorganisms and odors (mostly chlorine, which I read you want to keep in your tank to help control growth). The same filtering system will be processing city water when connected to the line, which will also have an outside in-line sediment filter before getting into the trailer.

Anyone could recommend a relatively affordable filtering system that accomplishes this? I know there are UV and reverse osmosis systems, but they seem like an overkilll for my needs (and are also fairly expensive). Or are these technologies the only ones that can make water safe in terms of bacterial/algae growth in the tank? Should I instead consider treating the tank water to make sure it's safe, and then just removing odors with a filtering system?

As an added constraint, the only space I have to put the filtering system is such that a T connection would be needed (i.e. in-line filters would not fit, or I would need to get really creative with my piping layout)

Thanks!

JP
