I thought that the 2x4's might be for the bunk bed. We have a bunk bed in ours and I was surprised and quite frankly a little scared that they factory only used 2x2's. I plan on changing them to 2x4's as well.

I have seen other people do the same thing in the corners that you are doing and I like the structural strength it appears to give. I just wanted to get clarification on why you were doing that. It looks great and keep up the good work. That looks like a lot of fun.

Craig,

Most of the framing members are "2x2" but not the ones you see pre-cut (those are always warped and not always the same size from board to board) at Lowes or Home Depot. I ripped 2x4 s down the middle. The corners have more wood as I had to have room to create the curves of the trailer, on a few boards. The 2x4 you see are for bunk support. Most framing is done as it was from the factory with the exception of the curves. They used strips of steam bent oak on the curves. This was one of the areas of demise for this camper. There was not enough strength for the roof "rafters" to hold on to. They seperated from each other over time, which in turn opened up seams and let water in. All members were nailed together from the factory. I improved upon this and fastened everything with pocket hole screw joints.

Hope this helps. If you would like more detailed pictures, I can email some to you.

Ok I know nothing about framing, but it looks like you do and that is a good thing. I am currently tearing down my 16' Terry trailer. Today I pulled out all of the windows and the doors. Within the next week or two I should have all of the sheet metal off of the trailer. Then I am going to start putting new walls back up.

Can you give me any pointers? I notice that the corners of your frame have much more wood in them. I can only guess that is to make the structure stronger? I also notice that you have some 2x4's in the wall now as well. Can you explain those as well?

Thanks - Craig
