I have four solar panels, do a lot of dry camping, and wanted to replace my four old flooded lead acid 6 volt Trojan T-105's (450 Amp Hours) with AGM technology so I don't have to be constantly checking and adding water etc. etc. I went with two Renogy AGM12-200 (200 Amp Hours at 10 hr rate, 208 Amp Hours at 20 hr rate = 416 total) which I picked up at Walmart (they even loaded them for me, 129 lbs each) free shipping for $247 each. On the Renogy website they are $399 each !!!!!!!!!!! It…

Anyone here camped much on the Texas Gulf Coast between Corpus Christi and Galveston?? I'm asking because I may try some free boondocking along the beach starting at Magnolia Bay (Port Lavaca) working North in early December. Will it always be windy and maybe cooler ???

Mornin gang, I have been absent for a while too busy updating my latest RV. While I don't currently own a good "old" RV (its a 2006) that's all I had for like 40 years lol so I feel right at home here.
MY SOLAR UPDATES
So, we do a lot of dry camping and in my last RV I had 400 watts or solar which kept my four deep cycle 6 volt golf cart batteries well charged. However, in my latest 2006 29 ft, Class I initially installed 470 flat rooftop solar watts (with…

I just got done watching the last Episode 6 (each 2 hrs) of the Ken Burns Film "The National parks, America's Best Idea" on PBS. Second time I've watched it.
WOW what a great emotional and almost spiritual experience. If you haven seen it GO GET IT AND WATCH IT.
I have been to several Natl Parks and LOVE THEM but now I want to start visiting some of the smaller lesser known and less crowded parks on my next journey. With your Senior or Access Pass admission…

So, my buddy bought an after market add on electric hot water heating element to his LP Gas fired hot water heater then shamed me into buying one so I can "keep up with the Jones's" lol. He and I have a friendly rivalry regarding who has a certain after market goody on their RV, and if one buys something the other just has to have the same or bigger or better…

Last night on Great American Country GAC I taped the show Flippin RV's. Its like a reality show where a young couple scours the country for vintage trailers which they buy and restore and you get to see the beginning, the restoration and the final product. I'm sure it will be repeated and there are more upcoming episodes which I will be looking forward to. Might wanna check it out. I get it on Dish Network GAC

Problems Problems Problems lol
Okay, so my RV and Truck, like all vehicles used to be, are 3 wire 1157 dual bulb lighting systems (Left Turn & Stop,,,,,,Right Turn & Stop,,,,,Tail Lights). Similar I have three trailers all of which (like most trailers) are 3 wire so no problem so far.
HOWEVER my car/toad I haul or tow to Florida is a 4 wire (Left Turn,,,,,,,Right Turn,,,,,,,Stop Light,,,,,,,,,Tail Light). Sometimes I tow that car and sometimes I…

Soooooooooo, after three + months on the road and in Florida, its time to give the old girl some routine preventive maintenance. We may take a 5000 mile trip this fall to Utah and Colorado and Yosemite etc so I want her ready. Heres the plan:
1: Found a broke muffler hanger clamp so built a new one to replace the temporary coat hanger until the new one was installed:
2. Although there likely was NOT a problem, when my main black holding tank was completely…

So my RV is about 14 years old and I've heard those 12 VDC LP Gas Detectors need to be replaced now n then. Went to bed last night and for the first time ever in this RV the LP Gas Detector starts chirping but not long and then a few minutes later chirped again momentarily?? I go up and can smell absolutely no LP Gas, checked stove and hot water heater was off and fridge was on automatic then 120 volt (NOT on gas). I went out and turned off main gas valve at tank and opened roof vents and…

There are different ways to winterize an RV, some of which may require less anti freeze then the four gallons I generally use, but FWIW here’s my method which I have used for well over thirty years. First of all, I highly recommend a water heater by pass plumbing job which isn’t that hard or…
