Angel Bus

I recently wrote about Habitat for Humanities RV Care-A-Vanners and what you can do with an RV.  Well to go one step further, if you have access to a motor coach, you can signup with Angel Bus as a driver.

Angel Bus® is a non-profit charity, dedicated to providing non-emergency, long-distance ground transportation to financially stressed ambulatory patients who are traveling for treatment.  A typical trip supported by Angel Bus does not exceed 250 miles (one-way) and we do not normally handle trips within a local area or community.  Exceptions made on a case-by-case basis, routinely for cancer patients traveling daily for treatment.

To sign up as a driver you must meet the following qualifications:

Angel Bus volunteer drivers must meet the following qualifications:

1. Provide proof they are properly licensed
2. Agree to abide by all Department of Transportation rules and regulations
3. Own or have access to a motor coach
4. Agree that the motor coach they will use is in excellent condition
5. Provide proof of insurance
6. Provide information regarding any motor vehicle accident

Of course you can help without being a driver.

During calendar year 2013 Angel Bus provided over 11,100 trips. The trips were for patient travel to distant medical care for a public benefit of over $276,000 while traveling over 729,000 miles.

Currently the most commonly used resource for these trips were:

• 87% Gas Card
• 8% Greyhound
• 3% Amtrak
• 2% Other
