Second Saturday (aka second day) of working on the camper. It is so stinkin' hot in Texas!! So when you just have a fan hooked up for circulating air, you just gotta know you're gonna do some serious, dripping, excessive sweating!! We worked for about 6 hours on the camper.....Jack checking out duct work, holding tank, water lines; me cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. Pulling in a shop vac, arming myself with Lysol, Comet, Simple Green, Mr. Clean, Fabreeze, Renuzit (pretty much every cleaning supply known to man!). And after 6 long, sweaty (did I mention it's hot in Texas??) elbow-grease working hours.....VOILA!! We found out that we still have a LONG way to go! LOL But what a great project and we are enjoying it so much.

Things discovered along the way:

1) All the duct work needs to be replaced due to way too many "patches" (and for cleanliness sake)

2)Water lines were a quck fix (thanks to my genius husband's skills)

3) Lysol and Fabreeze are two of the best inventions in the world!!

One of my projects was cleaning up the stovetop.....we discovered that grease and grime is a wonderful surface protectant! Who knew?? ;o) After scrubbing and cleaning the burners and knobs and top surface we were pleased to discover that it is in great condition.....so is the vent-a-hood.

Our camper is 30 years old and is in surprisingly good condition considering its age. But someone had been living in it recently and after seeing some of the things I have seen in the cleaning process (which we shall never speak of cuz WOW) I don't know how a human could live in that kind of condition....very disturbing and sad.

Neighbors are starting to ask us what we're up to. And when we tell them, they get really excited for us! None of them have even suggested that they think we have lost our minds....and if they are thinking that, they're keeping it to themselves. Two of our close friends are even considering getting themselves a vintage camper to restore so we can enjoy some nice week-ends getting away. And get this.....even our kids are kinda excited about it!!

Oh, and I so enjoyed looking at the pictures y'all have posted of your project.....maybe we can all get some good ideas from each other!

Thankfully we have no carpet to contend with. In fact, once I cleaned the flooring (with lysol, bleach and hot water) it wasn't in too bad of shape! Dirt and common "gross-ness" is obviously also a great protectant! It's still gonna be replaced, tho.

We're gearing up for more work on the camper this Saturday. We may be crazy....but it's a fun kind of crazy! :o)

Good for you! We are in a similer situation. There was a family with a baby living in it for about 3 months.. Yes the smells are interesting. But removing the carpet sure helped. Good lyck with your project its so nice to see other crazy people out there doing the same thing!
