Save me from lighting it on fire !!!! I have a 1982 Travelcraft class A with a Dometic generator. Last summer the generator stopped running, after rebuilding the carb we thought we had it but it only runs for about 30 seconds and then shuts down. I have also lost the capability of starting from inside the cab. I know Dometic is no longer in business and can't find any support in Northern Virginia. I am wondering about the 3 safety time delays (oil, speed and water temp) but not sure how to troubleshoot. Anybody have any ideas ? I hate to just start replacing items that might not be bad. does it start back on the panel on the generator? and it helps to know which model you have its on the plate that is on the generator itself that way i could probally direct you to the correct manual. all the info on the plate helps.

I will look at the plate, never thought about fuel tank level. Will check filter and fuel level. Thanks, Ray
Okay, fuel tank is at half and filter is new but still times out. I also cannot start from inside. Starting to think I should have poured the gas on the camper instead if in the tank. I have the plate but forgot to bring it home, to frustrated

Okay it is a Dometic Kwyatt. Tried again today and mechanically it starts but shuts right back down. Still can't figure out why I lost the switch inside the cab either

All your safety switches PROBABLY are designed to break a circuit when there's potential trouble. Assuming that you have a good Ohmmeter (if you don't you should get a high-end multimeter capable of true RMS readings and DC functions as well), you can check continuity at each of the switches "in" and "out" terminals to see if juice is getting through. It could also be that they MAKE contact for shutdown, so you really should get a amnual somewhere to find out.

 

A handy hint is to make sure that the 12V source is disconnected when you make these tests. I was doing the same thing on my ancient Generac (with it connected) and popped the main circuit board. Oops! This is a bad thing to do with obsolete electronics, since parts can be a bummer to locate. Does the genny turn over from the remote switch, or just not start? If it doesn't tun over it's a relay issue as well. Or maybe you popped a fuse.

You guys are great. Matt, I have power going to the switch inside but it will not even turn it over. I have to be at the generator to start it. Thanks for the schematics Wing man. Going to play some more this weekend
Thanks to everybody's help I have narrowed it down to the circuit board. Now the question is where can I find one ?

try these guys,you may have to call them if one is not listed, you will need all the info off the build plate to figure it out.
