Unneccesary excitement

One of the advantages of traveling in our Glastron motorhome is not having to stop when my wife needs to visit the bathroom. Normally this is an uneventful time and I just try to hold us steady on the road so as not to excite her unneccesarily while she is in there. I was preparing to do just that as we were heading down one of those winding two lane mountain roads toward Walsenburg after a relaxing three week camping trip in Colorado. I know it was just a wierd coincidence, but the exact moment I heard the bathroom door close the gas pedal under my foot fell to the floor board. The engine went to an idle and because we were descending there was very little difference in our speed, and no reason for her to get excited...yet. I looked in the mirrors and there was no one behind us so I just kept steering through the curves and started looking for somewhere to get off the road. When she came back and sat down I calmly told her what had happened and asked her to help me find someplace to stop. I assured her it must be something simple and I could fix it and we would be on our way. Soon we found an abandoned farm house driveway and pulled in. I discovered the linkage from the throttle cable to the carburator had a small clip that had come loose. I snapped it back on with a solid clicking sound and we were back on the road in no time. Just about the time I finished bragging about how quickly I was able to solve our problem it happened again. This time we slowed down quicker because the road had started to flatten out some. I looked in the mirrors and now we had a line of traffic bearing down on us and again no place to get off the road. This is where she gets excited. I moved from the drivers seat to the engine cover while holding the wheel and asked her to get behind the wheel and steer. She was not real happy with me but complied anyway. I then opened the engine cover reached in and found the throttle linkage and pulled on it to increase our speed. This was a very precarious operation becuase I could not operate the linkage and see the road over the engine cover at the same time and I could not hear her (getting excited) over the noise of the engine. It seemed like forever before we found another wide spot in the road and she was very excited by then. This time I wrapped wire around that little clip to keep it on and attached a pull string to the linkage and left it hanging out of the engine cover. Next time she can pull on the string to keep us going and not get unneccesarily excited by having to swap seats with me.
