72 Smokey Tag along Restore

Hello to all.I hope there are some Campers with some comments .It is in poor shape but did'nt fall apart on me getting it home.Its a 20 ft an has a bad leak from the front left Corner of the roof the ceiling needs replaced an all the paneling as well. I figured it was like most that it had stick frame but after removing a Peice of the paneling found it was medal to foam to paneling glued tightly together with only stick framing around the door an windows .and the floor I'm sure is bad along the wall so needs a floor as well I'm not sure how the walls are connected to the Trailor but thats my main concern as well as what to do about the walls will it stand with removing the paneling an if so what type of glue would i need to re glue the paneling back and will it need to be pressed together tightly to make a good tight Bond also the windows have some dark streaks in the lower Corners .I have some Building experience but first camper Build  so any comments Welcome. Hi Keith:  Welcome to Goodoldrvs.  Got a problem list it here!  What ever it is several members have gone there  before you.  No one minds sharing.  Yes please post some pics!  One pic is worth a thousand words.  Good luck on you restore.  Water IS your worst nightmare in any camper.  I always tell every body if it drips just once get on top and find that leak.  No matter how much work you put into restoring one its worth it.  Good luck.  Larry

Welcome Keith,,,, Rebuild/repair is only as hard as ya make it. There is tons of info on here plus other member willing to help you along with questions and ideas ya might have. If you can, post some pictures and it will give us all an idea what your working with.

Ahh yes!  I have seen worse but not by much.  Good pic.  Lets us know where to start.  Not just a small leak.  Very important that when you start deconstructing the unit you will need to be careful and save what you can to be used as patterns.  Is the other side the same as this one?  They will he exact duplicates of this side.  Thats good for measurements and angles.

Gorilla glue and contractors glue works with adhering panels. Tear out the rotted wood, salvaging somewhat of the wood to use as *patterns if you can. You can resupport the flooring with angle joists. Some walls are sole dependent on the flooring for strength. But dont be discouraged, as ya tear away the bad, you can visualy see what needs to be replaced. And as ya rebuild, its the feeling of bringing an old gal back to life.

Tnx Pat for info Ive been all over and Ive learned a little but think Lakota has helped me the most on what to do ,Mine is Constructed differantly than most so need to tackle it differantly but Im not going to give up on her will get it done....keithw
