What goes wrong with air horns?

The air horns on the Allegro stopped working. Not the fake electric ones up top, but a pair installed by the previous owner in the grille. I have plenty of air pressure, the solenoid works and I can…Continue

The Guest House

Just had some friends "move out" of the Allegro today after spending a week out there. It's now known as the "Guest House". There were 4 of them - employees/owner of an interior decorating company.…Continue

Bought a "Sewer Solution"....

So I bought a Valterra Sewer Solution pseudo-macerator pump so I can dump my RV at home into 1 of 3 sewer clean-outs in my yard. I went to Home Depot and bought 100-feet of plastic sprinkler lines…Continue

More Driveway Guessing

So this has been a very slow move. We got 33" of snow last week so I couldn't get to the "old" house to move the remainder of my belongings. We dug out on Monday, I worked all week and didn't have…Continue

Talked to the Original Owner of my '84 Today

Or more accurately the son of the original owner.

A week or so ago I was bored and decided to call a phone number on a Midas receipt I found in my '84 Allegro. It was the number of the owner at the time, but since it had sat so long I was pretty sure the number wasn't good anymore. But an answering machine picked up, with no custom message - just a robot voice saying to leave a message. I did. I didn't hear back from anyone until today when the son of the original owner…

Pocono 400 Trip Report

Today's Pocono 400 race was the first trip out this season with the old Allegro. I am the world's worst procrastinator. I didn't get to half of the work that I wanted to do on the rig before I left. And I had to leave the race early because I have school work due at midnight (that I am not doing right now -…

Condolences to my Brother (aka The Dutchman)

My brother, a member here but not a frequent poster, lost his RV today. We were supposed to head out to Hershey this afternoon. He had the fridge on electric, and in preparation for leaving switched it over to propane. He waited for the green light indicating it was lit and went in the house. 15 minutes later the trailer exploded. Thank God no one was hurt and the house, while damaged, didn't light up.

I'm still going, but I have to say I'm really shaken up. You may recall…

Fuel Economy, or lack thereof

Filled the Allegro up in preparation for my next trip this coming weekend.

It looks like I went 165 miles between "fills", and it took 40 gallons. So about 4 MPG. I did run the generator quite a bit - a bit over 5 hours and it sucks down about a gallon an hour. I also question my last "fill" because I know that when it's full it pukes gas out the top of the tank where it meets the filler tube. The gas station attendant (can't pump my own gas in NJ) insisted it was full but…

I have had little luck doing anything with a radiator that has problems. I have tried additives but, they end up greatly shortening the life of the radiator but may buy you a little time. If its a fan issue at idle. I would get an electric fan. They kick on via temp sensor switch. But, since the vehicle was designed with a standard fan, if that is not working, a fan change is a band aid at best. I have as you know a highly modified 454 that now a 496. Over heating is not an issue and I think we are both on a P 30 platform.

Wow. You know it's bad enough having a occurrence,,, then to have to be subjected to more expenses in addition to the loss. My vehicle fire the insurance company looked at me like I was crazy. Then she turns around and tells me she wants the new cost replacement prices and to price it out and to find what receipts I had left. Moral of the story,,, don't keep receipts in your investments. And make duplicate copies of your investment in projects. And they paid... and lowered my INS. rates. If your brother needs a hand let me know Jim. I like that name The Dutchman. Very cool.

I was suggesting that we take up a collection to rebuild his camper. GlennL marine has a  few cool camper plans if he wanted to utilize the existing trailer frame and build a new one. That's nice he found out about a Vintage Shasta, I hope it works well for him.

Having tools and spare parts is great if one has the ability, or should I say capability, to render such repairs.  Unfortunately, I know how to make the repairs, but my body will not cooperate, I walk with a cane on good days, and a walker on my bad days.  IF I get on the ground, it takes me several attempts to get vertical again.  I agree that having parts to render repairs beats waiting for tow trucks and paying mechanics to do stuff I know how to do, but at this point in my life, that is just not feasible.
