 Once in the middle of Michigan at 3 in the morning I was driving my 1970 F17 Winnebago down the freeway.Saved by the CB radio. A trucker warned me and I slowed down just in time. That would have ruined my vacation.

I know in the U.P. of Michigan or Wisconsin you have to pay for the clean up. A friend of mine hit three deer at night on a tight two lane highway in the UP. It took him about a mile to get slowed down and stopped  after hitting them. He checked out the front of his rig and the only thing he found was deer hide and hair. Good Canadian made Travelmate Motorhome. Anyway it was to dark and no place to turn around and see what happened so he went on. A day later he ran into another Canadian who came the same way at about the same time at night to the same event. His comment was  did you see any dead deer on your way up? Nop. Man he says I come around the corner and there was deer guts scattered all over the place. Some truck hit three deer and scattered them all over the place.

Ah, Yes The Police thing, It is good policy and the Law in some places to contact local authoritys Even when you are traveling ! 911 will connect you anywhere if you do not know the exchange Better safe than sorry !

It usually pays to call the police to report the accident if there is any vehicle damage. In some states that is a requirement. Nothing will be done in the way of tickets, it is just a formality to make sure nobody was hurt and there is not property damage outside of your own vehicle and the animal. Sometimes they will just ask if there was anybody else involved an you say no and that is the end of it but better safe than sorry and having an officer show up at you doorstep with a warrant for leaving the scene of an accident several weeks later. Yea, I live in Sue Jersey, can you tell?

You performed well Ralph, TIP: Never try to steer away from hitting anything that jumps out in frt of you . You will only create energys that cant be controlled, Slow down as quickly as possible (checking the view to the rear  don't put a tractor trailer into a panic stop ) You will only suffer much worse  , Don't try to lock up the brakes, You will only discover all the items you did not store properly (they will try to kill you) . Slow as quickly as is safe Pull over in a safe spot (there are none on a traveled part of an interstate) turn on your 4 ways cfarefully exit and check for any fluid leaks or fires from shorted wireing etc. If all is ok procede to a better spot Then make any necc repairs to continue on , Unless it is a human who was involved , They are no longer your concern Shi-  Happens !  Whole different set of circumstances if a person is injured Use your head Don't lose it !

Good morning, all;

Well, I did survive the weekend, but there were a couple of moments there. For me, it was a discouraging weekend. For the other major participant, it was a very bad weekend indeed.

Ending score for the weekend: Winnebago, 1; Deer, 0.

Actually, she would have been fine if she had just kept going, but when she turned around and tried to rung bac the other way, there was no way I could avoid her then.

The plastic front grille on the Elandan is damaged. I did hear that there is a company in Florida who may still be making plastic grilles for older motor homes. Now if I can just get more specific information on who they are, . . .

Enjoy; Ralph, Latté Land, Washington
