Aloha Trailer Project

Call me crazy, but I have undertaken a very interesting trailer project. Just purchased a 58 (?) Aloha which was found in a field here in town about 5 years ago, stripped down pretty much to bare frame in which the only things saved were a few windows. The previous owner is a sail maker/boat builder/carpenter and his skills are seen in the interior finish photo. We just moved it to its new temporary home where a friend of my son-in-law will be taking it on as a fun project, financed by yours… Continue

Flying J no longer offers free dumping

Just one more reason people need to really stop abusing dumping stations. RV'ers used to be able to dump their tanks for free at any Flying J Truck Stop. Due to the cost of cleaning out tanks and the misuse and abuse of the service they now charge for the privilege - $10 a pop. Please don't force other providers to follow suit. Read the rules, understand that ONLY human waste, not human trash of any kind goes into a dump station. Here's Flying… Continue

Ol' Stonehead Homestead 2010

This is for all the folks who can't travel right now. I'll try to take you along on our trip to the Ol' Stonehead Homestead. We live on the Oregon coast so our trip starts out in some really pretty country. Hwy 42 south to Roseberg OR. then get on I-5 south to 140 east around Medford OR.

Our old 1969 Cabana with her 318 dodge gas burner did ok. Yes at times we were down to 30 mph but when you have a cliff right next to you it's fine to go…

Update to: Tankless water heater and new curtains.

Well, Joy finished the curtains and I tested out the new hot water heater. NO! hot water, unit will NOT light. On the phone to tech support. Then the boss. Much to my surprise and pleasure. With no hesitation, the boss says: A new one will be sent out today and I got a tracking # from UPS in the e-mail same day. It will not be here in time for our Nevada trip this week but at least they did have great customer service. Another surprise, they don't want the bad one back. They said keep it, so I… Continue

Tankless water heater and new curtains.

More improvements to our old Cabana. Joy has been working on new curtains. The old ones were beyond shot. See new pics. And I was busy installing a tankless hot water heater. We have one on our tuna boat and it's GREAT! So i built a mounting system retaining the old front for access. If I ever want to put a tank type back in nothing has been cut up. And it still looks like it has it's original/? water heater. There is still some trim work to do. And a few more curtains to finish. Always, more… Continue

Revolting Developments

Well, a fun day. Started the Cabana this morning and went to check the post. Got back and she was not running, odd? Well, she would not start. Turns over OK. Check the likely suspects, gas-yes, but not in the filter(see thru type) Maybe a bad fuel pump? Still I can see gas in the carb. Spark? ahh haa no spark. Well I did put a new distributor in a while back. Maybe? Pull it out spin her over, and whoo. Drive gear and cam are not going round and round, very NOT!! good. Busted cam shaft or timing… Continue
