Pre-travel Must do.

Its getting to be that time again,,,  Yup,, Road trips.

We get our vehicles backed up and hooked up to our trailers,,, get everything hooked up and lined up and jump in and go.

BUT,!!!!!!!     Did any of you remember to make adjustments to your head lights?  Seriously..  I have seen so many cars/ trucks,, pulling trailers with their head lights beaming over the TOP of tree lines on low beam.

Its not something that falls onto your usual checklist,, But when you drop a…

Warm weather awaits us,

Ok, fellow Rv'er's and RV-ettes,,,,

Its getting close to that time of year,,, Yup. I'm talking about the season called NOT WINTER,,, (Thats the term for the folks who live in the Northern snow and cold states). An example would be,,Michigan,, which has 2 seasons,, Winter and Construction,, Other states follow that motto also. As Springs creeps up on us,, we are all feeling that *itch,,,

Ok,, to clarify,, The itch to hit the open roads and camp grounds,, not the itchy's between…

A traveling Ut Oh moment,

Me and an old friend was making our way back to Cali-forn-I A, Via Colorado ways... Hes never seen Wolf Creek Pass,, just only heard songs about it. Well,, Ole Wolf Creek is a natural beautiful area to travel through,,, its almost jaw dropping. First of all, when your at the top,, Your pretty much at the altitude of aircraft,,,I could have sworn I was right along side a 707 at one time,,, but then it could have been a big bird.

Anyyyyyyyyyy-who,,, my friend,, Freddy,, is dozing on and…

Rain flooded water heater.

I got the great pleasure in having to do some repairs to my gas water heater. It all started with stepping into the shower with about 3 seconds of warm water, then the coldest water I've encountered in quite awhile. After doing approx. 8 months of cardio exercise in the time span of 10 seconds scrambling out of that cold shower. I realized, the hot water quit. While shivering, I dressed quickly, chattering my teeth like a beaver chewing wood. I go to the control panel and reset the switch,…

Seeing Odd things while Rving.

I was wondering if anyone has SEEN, some unexplainable things while traveling? Weird animals, odd looking signs or eiry houses?

After many many miles going from one coast to the next and back and the points in between, I have seen a few things I had to double take or even be left baffled. I have always enjoyed driving through New Mexico and Arizona,, and even some parts of eastern California. Im a sucker for Ghost towns,,,, places that time has forgotten. I have even seen a few towns…

Tiny homes revisited,

I got to talk with a trooper from the Texas Dept, of Transportation about these tiny homes.. He somewhat agreed they are kinda cool and its an on going FAD. But according to T.D.O.T. They CANNOT be transported on any Hwy, or Freeway in the state of Texas. They are allowed to be transported on FTM (Farm to Market roads), 2 lane back roads, and NOT to exceed 50mph. Before being transported, they MUST pass a Vehicle inspection and be Registered. In order for them to pass inspection, they must…

Adventures and breakdowns.

The big move from California to Texas, was an adventure to say the least.

I had just picked up my 03 Dodge 1/2 ton and made the non stop run from Texas back to California. With only a week to get ready for the return trip back to Texas. I spent 2 days installing a 5th wheel hitch into the Dodge, (of course the 03 is the ONLY year that dodge recommends NOT putting a 5th wheel hitch into, due to a solid box frame, no predrilled mounting holes and the way the saddle fuel tank sits). But…

Some Common sense goes a LONG way.

After going through 4 days of below zero temps,,,we can finally turn our water on and finish with the sponge baths and use the shower like normal. Being in an RV park and full timming in an RV,, there are things that have to be done,, Like turning the water off and disconnecting the supply hose. The Park managers went to each and every RV here and gave them a letter stating that the RV owners MUST turn the water spigot  off and disconnect the hose,,, or the RV owner will be responsible for…

Finding a Gem

Lets start with,,,, You just found that sweet little gem, sitting along side that old garage,, partially covered with ivy and vines,, a branch from a nearby tree hangs just above it. It's aluminum is faded and what paint it did have is peeled and faded, That lonesome propane tank on the front tongue is leaned over, only being held in place by the weather cracked supply hose. The chains hang motionless, even as the breeze rustles the tall grass around them, Mother nature is trying to claim its…

Tiny homes conversations

Ok,,, While sitting with a few friends in the RV life,, we was patronizing the local choke and puke, sipping bitter coffee and attempting to talk logical shop talk. The topic that came up was the so called Tiny Homes movement,,, The yuppy generation seem to think that having a home thats on wheels and portable is something NEW. (you can take a moment and chuckle). It seems that they havent been outside in quite awhile and have lived a sheltered life with their faces buried into some type of…

RV's during the holidays.

During the past few days,, Holiday season,,, Ive met quite a few people who traveled from just about everywhere to visit family here in the south, Of course seeing fairly *newer RV's and 2 older ones,,, these travelers where in pretty good spirits.I visited an older couple who have been full timming in a some what McMansion motor bus. The couple bought it used and the gentleman gutted the kitchen and bath, removing the granite and marble and installing nice grade hard wood flooring and…

RV Christmas

As I sit in my Thermals, the wife in her robe,

We live in our 5th wheel, we call our adobe.

With the weather turning colder, and no snow on the ground

We figured ole Santa would still come around.

With no slant roof to land on, No chimney to slide,

Santa has for RV'ers ,customized his ride.

He cruises up in a sleigh  flashing Bling,

He knocks on the door, and gives us a ring.

Instead of TV's,radio's and clocks,

He brings what we…

I hate Texas winters,

If your full timing,,, the rules are,, always prepare, Which apparently I failed to do,, as a seasoned full timer. Call it a Blonde joke moment, Brain Fart, oooops, or what ever comes to mind. I had initially prepared for the cold snap heading our way. Bought a NEW tangle proof, insulated, top of the line RV fresh water hose. And for precautionary measures,, double insulated it with foam pipe wrap AND Roll wrap insulation.( Being December, I always replace my fresh water hose whether it needs…

Some RV humor.

After having a couple conversations concerning *noises,,( you know,, things that go Bump in the night), I thought I would pass on some humor on this subject.

While deep in slumber all tucked tight under warm blankets,, the furnace set at a comfortable 68 degrees. Then in a slight sleep and not quite awake you hear a *tink,,tink, tink,  You brush it off not thinking about it and attempt to drift off to la la land. Then that little tink, tink, tink, turns into a twangy clank clank clank.…

RV Parts.

I posted a comment on RV products that are advertised as made in U.S.A.. Now don't get me wrong,, Other countries do make quality products along with respected manufacturers. The issue I have is inferior products claiming to be made some place they are not. I had only chose the made in U.S.A trademark stamp because there are numerous RV manufactureres and suppliers here.(Mostly Indiana). The big issue was the slightly more expensive product only offered a 30 day warantee.

And Murphy's…

Welllll,, alrightyyyyyyy then,, Off we go to check this bumber pull out.

Ya'll ready for WINTER?

Hey GORV members,,,,, are ya'll ready for winter and the cold brrrrr winds, wet cold snow?  Me neether. Well I can handle a pretty xmas morning with a nice coating of snow to set the mood,,, But after that it can all melt and go back to Human temps,, right around a comfy 75 degrees. One thing that has bothered me and I spent countless minutes searching the web for the answer to a particular question. When snow melts,,, where does the white go? Just something to ponder.

Its like while…

R&R of RV furnace

Considering  its stormy weather outside,, I took the RV furnace out in between the down pours, Thank goodness for pop up canopy's.

My 92 Fleetwood 5th wheel has a Hydroflame 5330 furnace,, Atwood bought out the brand and labled it an Atwood 8531-11 model.

32,300 b.t.u. (4 ducts).

It wasn't rocket science to remove it,,, I started by disconnecting the thermostat wire, (red and white wire sleeved in a brown coated wire),

then disconnecting the 12 V power supply,,…

its always something.

Its always something that throws a wrench into the spokes of a rolling wheel of intense thought. I got the heater/furnace working after being showed something new about how central air and central heat are controlled,(Fleetwood model RV's)..That itself was a nightmare from Elm St. excluding Freddy Kruger,(of course I did think I saw him lurking in the shadows). A simple 2 wire simple basic hook up thermostat was NOT in the plans of the mechanicals of the design.I think the manufactures pay…
