Slightly overweight on the steer axle?

Okay, other than the jokes I'm going to get to lose 80 pounds and always park a passenger in the rear dinette seat, I'm not sure how I can lose weight up front.  Pat me on the back - I got the nerve…Continue

Toyota Motorhomes

These wee motorhomes were made from the mid-70s through the early 90s.  Constructed on Toyota truck frames, the shells were made by a variety of manufacturers and common ones include Winnebago, Dolphin, Itasca, Odyssey, Sunrader and Chinooks.  Although overweight and underpowered, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and their tough little engines, small footprint and good gas mileage have revived interest in these little gems.  This group is for owners (and wanna be owners) who wish to…See More

Fortuna Pond and Pilot Knob: Boondocking in Anticipation of Crossing the Border

We traveled down to Yuma, Arizona last week, and I wanted to share a couple of places for free camping.  I am traveling with two other RVers that are planning on taking advantage of 'medical tourism'.  Between us we are getting dental work, eyeglasses and medications filled. Los Algodones is very popular for those things with snowbirds.  Many stay near the border crossing at the Que Casino which offers free boondocking, but is crowded and noisy.  We opted to stay further out and try out some of…See More

Full-timed a few years ago, and although we made every mistake in the book, I didn't get it out of my blood. Or maybe I always had it, and the experience didn't deter me.

This time we are doing a few things differently. Purchased a cheaper (older) and smaller (key is MUCH smaller) RV to fix up This time we will have a "home base" we can always retreat to.

In realtime I am a going-on-gray web designer, am back in school studying anthropology and taking art and writing classes. I live with three rescues - a cat, a border collie mix and eccentric, but much adored, boyfriend.
What Interests you about the world of Good Old RVs?

The Desert & the Nomads

Incredible week (and a half) out here so far.  I wasn't sure what to expect but despite the isolation, I have to say everything is much more intense than I anticipated.  I don't think I've managed to capture it in photos yet, but the desert is beautiful.  Yes, it's very dry, very rocky, but the play of colors and textures has caught me in awe more than once.…

Made it...

I'm a little slow with my report, but I made my final destination on Thanksgiving, and found "the tribe".  For those of you that don't know, I'm doing my thesis research on solo female RVers and vandwellers.  So while my ultimate destination is the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous (RTR) in Quartzsite, my final physical destination was Ehrenberg, AZ, 17 miles west of Quartzsite.  There, on BLM land the 14 day rule is in effect, but not enforced.

So, many RVers that are going to the two…

Road Report #1

I have to say the first leg of my trip, from Asheville, NC to Denver, CO was stressful and there were several times I was close to turning around and packing it in.  Those that I've caught up with on chat have had the dubious honor of providing emotional support.  In addition to the strangeness of sleeping in new places every night, I was dogged by a mechanical issue that still hasn't been resolved (I'm on my fifth mechanic now and just won't know whether the last fix resolved the issue…

I'm here to congratulate on you being "featured".  Can someone tell me what "featured" means?  Is there a page for featured RV'ers or something that I can read?

Congrats!  :)

Dawn ,its best to tarp cover during cold rainy ugly nasty weather,,, roof sealers and such dont bond very well in wet conditions. Thats a project for better weather days.. The plus side,, it gives you the excuse to tinker on the inside,,, you know,, those little things that you want to do, but usually fall on a nice sunshiney day when you don't really want to be inside. This is the time to do those little projects. You sound as if its Christmas morning with a new toy and just cant wait to play,, I admire your enthusiasm.. Have fun and enjoy.. and dont forget, take pictures.

Dawn my advice don't delay every minuet you delay is 10 minuets of fun and enjoyment you are missing i have a 1976 Winnie and i wanted to buy one in 1976 when this thing was new instead i waited till 2015 to get mine so that is 39 yrs of fun and enjoyment i have missed out on all because i delayed for one thing or another. when you do jump make sure you will get one you can be not only happy in but also proud to own and as for repairs look at it this way your brick and morter home has to have repairs on all the time too so this way your investing in your enjoyment good luck and happy camping
