Four year summer project

In 2014 I committed my wife and myself to a “summer project”: restoring a 1964 Fireball Meteor travel trailer.  How hard could it be, I asked myself.  It was only 13’ long; the videos I watched fucused mainly on woodworking skills; anmd I found what looked to be a likely candidate on eBay.  The seller, Todd Anderson of Salt Lake City, Utah sold a book and CD about how to restolre one in a couple of weeks.  He adsvertised it as well maintained, ready to go camping,…

Brakes,

I woke up this morning and figured I would go check the rear brakes on the ole Ford diesel,, Well, that went side ways real quick, thinking it would be a quick and easy job.  I had good friend Russ Johnson come over and give me a hand, Spent the better part of the afternoon into the evening getting the brakes shoes changes and wheels back on,,, I guess that little*squeaking in the wheels, means brakes are due...   Thanks agian for Russ taking time from his R&R vacation to lend me a much…

Moab to Twin Falls Idaho

Well not many problems between Utah and Idaho. Bad winds and freeway construction made it exciting at times. Resting for a few days before on to Oregon and if we live the summit at Pendleton I'll be back with more. I hate Cabbage Hill, don't know if down is worse than up.

German made Tabbert Contessa de

Does anyone have any experience with a German made caravan in the states? A mechanic buddy of mine has a 1989 Tabbert Contessa De. It is a single axle and appears to be made in general UK caravan fashion, ie no wall or ceiling studs. I haven't been able to get pictures yet but of the ones he has shown to me it appears to be in great shape.

Our travels for 2018

Well we are back on the road again after spending the winter, if you can call it that, in Tucson. Stay in one place longer than we ever have. It was nice to rest for four months in the sunshine. Started heading north on the 15th stopped in Show Low for a few days. Went to see the sights and hold off the winds. We are currently in Holbrook AZ for three days to go day tripping to Canyon de Chelly and the Petrified Forest NP. Winds are coming back tomorrow with gusts…

Ideas on long term storage safety

It seems the thieves are rampant,, stealing trailers all over, No matter what kind of lock you have on the hitch, they have figured a way to tear it off and off they go with your investment. In comments, reply how you secure your trailer of rig for safe storage.

I gave up on tongue locks, Got expensive replacing them after someone tried to tear it off and was possibly disturb and couldnt finish.

I rely on a chain thru BOTH rear wheels, across the axle, criss cross so when they…

1992 5th Wheel Holiday Rambler Imperial 36'

I don't know if I am old enough to be vintage, but I went from a 1994 Class C to a 1992 5th wheel.

I have no idea why Holiday Rambler quit building 5th wheels, mine seems super solid.

At my blog I've been writing about the 5th wheel and for 8 years I wrote about wandering in my Class C at:…

Rude McMansion owners

Another reason Oldies are the best RV's and the people who own them,

I was on the way home from town this afternoon and noticed a Hunert bazzillion dollar motorcoach ahead of me with a small car on a tow dolly.

Not an unusual sight, except, the poor lil car was wobbling a lil more than it should be and as i approached closer, I noticed the tire on the passenger side of the tow dolly was shredded and pretty much gone and the dolly was rolling on its rim. This is not good,, so I…

Heavy rains and finding that leak,

Well. as we all know,, way to well, It has been a realy wet rainy winter here in the south, At one time thought about building an Ark. On one occasion, we had high winds, and buckets of rain hit, and of course, 2 elusive leaks,, one in the bathroom vent and the bedroom vent. Well, it seemed like the rain had found a way into the trailer around the seal or the cover itself, One would think, That was not the case after taking the vents completley out and inspecting .From the ceiling up it was…

First actual visit of an "eyebrow" Winnebago

Yesterday morning at 4h55 am, me and a co-driver left Montreal to travel 5h15 hours to get to see a first MH. To go there, my co-driver and me are going to go trough 2 Canadians provinces and one US state. The trip is about 330 miles and we have to do it both way in the same day. Daniel Long was very helpful in doing the initial assessment of the RV and although it might be far, the picture he sent seems to indicate the unit has potential. I made several research on the particular unit that…

It's almost warm weather season.

I know it's hard to grasp right now, with the cold rain and snow blowing, that's it's going get hot. With that, we will be using our roof A/C units. I know your thinking to yourself, well duh!!! Now,,, Are you seriously thinking about climbing up on your roof? Nooo. Admit it, that's not up there on your pre trip to do list. OK. Quit trying to ignore the fact that you have to get yourself up there. Btw, Don't forget hand tools. A simple 7/16ths 1/2 inch wrench and channel locks. If your…

Losing free overnight parking

It's all over the internet, Walmart, Cabela's, Outdoor World and Cracker Barrell are going to prohibit, if not already, the overnight rest parking for RV's.

2 Walmarts in Waco area along with Cabela's have banned over night campers, Due to a few DIRT Bag retards, Yes I said retards, because these type people are Not right in the head. Store manager had to have Hazmat crew on standby while he had several employees power wash a section of the parking lot. All because a couple brain dead…

So I am new to this. I hope I'm posting in the right spot. Here goes.... I'm looking to buy a 1973 Lark 26 RB. Although when I try to find info on it I don't have any luck what so ever! Nothing when googled.:( Dealer thinks it has a Dodge 360 in it. But I talked to an RV mechanic and he thinks it's a 440. It appears to be in good shape. 1976 Chevrolet Rockwood motorhome

hello all. I just purchased this motorhome. It’s in pretty amazing shape for its age. I am excited about this new project. I am going to start with a good cleaning of the inside and out. I am going to do run some sea foam through the engine and fuel system, followed by a full tune up and possible brake replacement on the front. I am interested in any information you all may have on this particular task that I have undertaken. I look forward to chatting with you all about…
