Solar RV by a "newbie"

Disclaimer: I am NOT an expert on anything.  I have spent the past two years researching and reviving a 1957 Yellowstone for MY purposes and am learning a lot along the way.  I am always happy to share my own experience to save someone else the “joy” of the learning curve as it were.  My background includes ~6 years as a machinist, a lifetime of breaking then fixing things, 5 or 6 classic car restorations, and more recently the lure of the Internet to help bring me answers to new things. …

New Fuel pump Problem

The new fuel pump I installed now has a pulse. The high pitch noise matches the engine and comes from the pump in the fuel tank. I unplug the pump and fuel guage and the noise stops. This is an 89 Pace Arrow on a P30 frame with a 454. New pump again or is this a common noise? Lowering the tank is the only way to get to it. Help

FOUR AIRBAGS and level from to side

I'm thinking about a  four airbag systems and level going from side to side.

Also and thinking about  taking out one spring and have it lower when in parking space.

Real helpful  with the topes (speed bumps) in Mexico ,all most no springs  last

Almost had a tragedy

Many of you no doubt survived through the latest storm that devastated our state of WV and surrounding states. Power was off for days and in many places weeks!

Here is my Ole GMC that is truly a survivor. Big tree limbs fell on top but never caused any damage what so ever!…

No I did not drop off the face of the planet

It has been pretty hectic here at home. The old GMC camper we worked on has done two excursions and performed flawlessly! We did break down and get a satellite set up because we are TV junkies.

I also have other interests as well. in my little shop in the basement I build custom motorcycles and have been doing so long before American Chopper hit the TV airways. I know that this is a camper forum

but many of the skills I used on the camper came in handy on this…

Our solar system set up

Since I am on the road (not in the motorhome) I can not add photos directly to this blog but I wanted to give and overview of our solar system.

Excerpt from my blog:

"Today my better half installed the 2 solar panels on Myrtle's roof, which give us 190 watts of free, clean power from the sun. The Carmanah 95 watt solar panels are hooked up to the Magna-sine sinewave inverter and the bank of two 6-volt US Battery brand batteries and it all works! We used a Go Power solar regulator and… Continue

Pulling a 5th wheeler with a V6 Ford Ranger.!!!

People tell me it can't be done but it is just 1995 Willderness 21 footer fifth wheeler and a light weight at that . I've seen Toyoto 4 cylinders with a camper chasis. My Ranger has a towing package and has pulled a 21 ft  old 69 Holiday Rambler, which is a very heavy camper. What do y'all say? Hadn't put the hitch in yet. I'll let u all know what happens. comments are appreciated if helpful and not discouraging. I'm tired of the nay sayers....

Dometic Awning Dilema

Well another day in the rv world where a manufacture turns ther back on a consumer without seeing or listening to their concerns. You would think that with all the money, and resourses the general public has, just a courteous call would show real honest business practice. So I will resolve myself to spend my resourses elsewhere so I can get a better bang for my buck.

I also want to say that to my fellow rv`er`s do all research possible on Awning `s being purchased. Keep moving on…

Re-painted my 87 fiberglass Telstar

It really wasn't as difficult as I had expected.  I got the idea from our friend Stu Mitchell here on GORVs.  Stu reccommended a method called "roll and tip" and a brand called Interlux Brightside.  I knew that I couldn't spray paint my MH and I certainly could not afford from 3,000 to 20,000 dollars for a professional paint job.  (some of the quotes I received by calling around).  I thought by gosh I can roll paint, I have done several houses and many walls, why not a MH.  So I proceded to…

Sometimes you get what you asked for~!

Tiz good and bad I would say.

So I had my camper found! A homemade slide in truck camper in very nice shape. The camper would have come with the tie downs, the a/c and new tv he had just  bought. I worked my tail to the bone and came up a couple hrs to late. He sold it to another gentleman who came and upped my price by $400. Whats a man to do, no harm, no foul, I would have done the same thing.

It lead me to my new project .... a 65 Norris .... already 85%…

Roof repair on 1984 Winnebago Chieftain motorhome

When we got our 1984 Winnebago Chieftain motorhome it had been sitting for some time.  The roof showed signs of previous repairs, none which were done properly, and not knowing any better I performed more repairs for minor leaks, again not done properly, so after a 1400 mile trip from New Mexico to Alabama, where we are located now, I decided to research rv roof repairs and discovered the proper way to repair an rv roof and thus began the process of proper repair. First I cleaned all the…

New to the Travco

Good Old Rvs. Ah yes, they sure are classic pieces of art aren't they?

My name is Adam and I recently purchased a '66 Travco 270. I have been off and on full time in my previous rig 'Gypsy', a '77 Dodge Sportsman 20ft. She was my first home on wheels and I fell in love. Never before had I experienced such freedom and the sense of pride that goes along with owning your own home.

She was my everything for about a year, parked by the river in NV for a month before…
