72 Dodge Travel Queen - Its coming alive

FOR 2014 BLOG SCROLL DOWN

Finally.... found enough time & nerve to start a blog about this old gal. Took on this project in November 2012 and have not looked back since. First year rebuilt driver side of the camper (see our video - Camper Restoration PUBLIC_0001) and during the summer months finished three of the exterior sides. With a little fiberglass repair, sanding and 6 coats of marine based paint the…

USRV "DREAMER"

The newly christened 'USRV Dreamer', finally seemed to be ready to try and take a trip & the front tires that looked almost new (actually c1990 still had the nubs) went bad before we ever got out of town. Thank goodness me and my new puppy been driving around with it for a week. Got some newer 16" tires and GM wheels from a guy on craigslist (GM wheels will only work on the front). I learned a bunch from him about tires. I learned 20+ year old tires ain't gonna make it very far. I also…

Rebuilding The Hooch

1973 Superior 2200 on a Dodge RM350 chassis, 440 engine with a Carter Quadrajet 750 4 barrel carburetor, 727 Torqueflite transmission automatic 3 speed transmission, rear axle 4.56 gear ratio. Rebuild of entire chassis completed beginning of 2015. Tried to keep as much of original parts and pieces as we can. 75% of chassis electrical had to be rewired and rerouted. All cables were fried, broken and binding. You can see more of this project here …

AIRSTREAM RIMS?

I am having a heck of a time finding rims for my 1962 28 foot Airstream trailer. I can't find anyone that even knows anything about them. I talked to several dealers and even Airstream themselves. I can't get any answers!!! I was told that rims from a mid 70s chevy would work so i bought some and the tire rubs on the shock absorber and the wheel won't even spin. Going nuts over here!!!

Fire Safety.

It should be written in stone that EVERY RV'er should have more then ONE Fire extinguisher. I occasionally get a wild hair to go L@@KING at the NEW RV's, The A's,,B,s C's, Bumper pulls and 5th's. Just to see what new and improved plastics and fiber board they are implementing in them.  3 out of a dozen or more that I walked through,,,had a fire extinguisher in them. When I questioned the saleman or woman about the lack of them,, They said that its the customers obligation to have one put in…

The Starting Point- continuation-chapter 4

Hello fellow campers, boondockers, and traveling gypsies, I posted a page yesterday and it seems it got lost somewhere in cyber space, so trying to remember what was said on that post, I will try to regain some of the info on this post.

So after having repaired all the rot on the CAVELCADE, I loaded it on my truck and it felt a little tipsy. So I went to the scales close buy and figured out why. My truck is 6600 lb GVWR stock. Even with the extra heavy duty shocks on the front, 10 ply…

The Starting Point- continuation

Hello and Good morning fellow vintage people, campers, and rigs. To all those who have left comments to my blog, thank you, but please let me clear the air for a moment. When I started this blog, I started from the beginning of my camper adventure. To those who have left comments to the chopped camper, thank you but that camper no longer exists, as you will see if you continue to follow my progress.

So with the air cleared, let me continue with this epic adventure. After mounting the…

The starting Point

Good Morning happy campers, and not so happy. Well continuing the saga of the starting point, after having many trucks in my life time, I was in dire need of some transportation, previous truck wasn't getting the gas mileage I needed, and repairs were too costly, so I sold it. I stumbled on my current camper hauler, 1987 Dodge D250. I found it via craigslist, and after purchasing it for $1200, took it home and started cleaning it up, and found the original window sticker from the…

The starting Point

Since joining this Vintage Camper, I have been urged to start my own blog and fill folks in on what the heck I'm doing in sunny south Florida with my Honor Built 8' slide in camper.

Hello my name is David, I live in my Honor Built "Aztec" camper, which I found on Craigslist last summer 2014, in Chilecothe, OH, that had been stored for almost 40 years in a well built barn. When I answered the ad for the camper, $500 asking price, I fell in love with it at first sight. All the cushions…

Hi All.

I am currently working on a 69 Nomad. I took the hubs off and am booking into why the brakes where on working. I found the brake shoes, bearings and tires online.

Yesterday I connected the power for the first time and everything worked but the air conditioner.

I am also having to revisit the Oven and furnace since my light stick ran out of fluid.

On of the biggest contributions is a book I found at the used book store by Bob Livingston, second edition.

I am trying to do…

Whats Lakota been doing?

What have I been doing that I'm NOT supposed to be doing and what have I've been doing thats constructive?.

Since before Xmas holidays, I have logged 3,000 plus miles between Waco Tx and Corpus Christi Tx. (Padre Island). Having to look after my Folks property that my brother owns and I watch it while he ventures out and about, (usually in Michigan). To off-set the cost of travel expenses, I have hot shot'ed some B/P and 5th wheels both ways. I christianed  bubba jr. (Red 97 dodge 1500…

Vintage Yellowstone camper, and metal art.

January 24, 2015

I began to write this blog so I can share my experience of rebuilding my Vintage 60's Yellowstone Camper. My plan is to post videos and pictures of my progress.

One day as I was peacefully ejoying my quiet retired life, my son came home and decided we needed to clean out the garage! We ended up with a large pile of scrap we didn’t know what to do with. Chris got creative and started welding pieces together creating beautiful art. That looked pretty interesting…
