More progress on my custom van

Yesterday worked out well I got the plywood in covering the bed area and finished up the ceiling panels plus added both partitions and finished up paneling one wall in the bed area. Hopefully I can finish up the opposite wall today.

Cabinet for my custom van project

I said I would share some pix of the cabinet I made for my custom van project. The trim work is all rough strips of wood used to get walls ready for paneling I think they are called "Fairing strips"n and luan panels

Each piece was Burnt with a propane torch then stained and sanded and then assembled,

I also cut a piece of Plexiglas for the top to protect it from moisture from sweaty canned drinks-etc.

I love the look of old distressed wood ad this fits nicely with the…

Still at it on my Dodge custom van

Okay finally got the foil backed foam core insulation in the ceiling-it was rough going when the temperature was in the low 20's and it was sleeting. Had to take a few breaks to get my hands warm.

Found a novel idea for my doors that go in front of the bed partition ! I had a set of cast aluminum wall sconces that looked like old wrought iron. I gut of the stem that holds the candle holder- ground down the tabs on the back and center drilled them. I will find a pair of brass or…

Just wondering if there are any RV's with the toilet inside the shower?  It seems like the shower could be larger if they were combined and used as a shower chair.

Hi all,

Pat had asked about our toad.  Our little "Yeller Toad".  A while back we found a hill in the mountains of Nevada that our little samari could not make it up.  We decided to upgrade to a larger motor with fuel injection so altitude would not hurt performance so much.  Well the outfit we had doing it lost their lease and we got a call from the landlord saying get your rig outa here or lose it.  When we picked it up their were lots of parts missing as well as the new motor we…

A Worthy Project to Consider Supporting - Even if only with advice from some "seasoned" restoration experts!

It's been a while since I posted anything to the GORV website. We've been busy trying to get the business back on track after all of the hullabaloo in Washington these days. At any rate, I found this project about some young ladies at a school in Texas who are studying to become engineers in various fields of work and I was intrigued by the possibilities that some of us in the GORV community might be able to assist them, if not with donations, then possibly with advice and…

Attention to details....

I may have mentioned that I was building a storage box/ center console for my Van project. I happened along this old wooden toy box that was the perfect size to fit between my seats. The box itself was trash and pretty beat up with gobbs of hot melt glue in all of the joints because it was falling apart.

I took the box apart and scraped and sanded the glue off of it. Stripped the shelac- sanded it then took my propane torch to it to bring up the grain in the wood then put it all back…

Tennessee Part 6

Well.... we survived our harrowing experience of the 82 scenic drive, from here is should be all down hill or maybe I should say down mountain.

Our next route is Rt. 60. I wanted to escape heading northeast because of the pending snow so decided 60 west to 23 north through Kentucky and Ohio would be safer. Kentucky? Yes, I wanted to take the long cut home.

More work on the custom van

After a point you have to start designing the interior. These wall partitions will provide some privacy as well as aesthetics to the inside of the van.

Started by making cardboard templates of the wall curvature then cut the OSB . Did a trial fit to make sure they will line up correctly and shimmed as needed. Did the right side the same way. Oddly you would think that the shape pf the wall would be the same but they are not!

This is the left side partition it goes from the roof…

More of the Custom Dodge van

I have been working on the doors that will go over the front of the bed partition. I used 1/4 inch OSB and then cut and pieced 1/8 inch hardwood pieces with the grain going at right angles then used tiny brass nails in the corners for an accent. Got them stained and sealed with gloss varnish. Also added a second coat of varnish to my homemade cup holder too. Still have to trim the edges of the doors-add hardware and hinges. I also burnt the wood a bit to bring up the grain for…

Our new best friend!

My wife Judy and I have been living fulltime in our '83 Southwind for about a year and a half now. Overall everything has been better than we expected, with the exception of one thing. Showers! We understood going in that sacrifices must be made with a 6 gallon water heater, we got really good with "Navy Showers". We adapted to washing dishes a little at a time, to the point that hot water became our biggest luxury.

We have talked about how we could rectify this situation. Should…

1964 17 foot Silver streak (bad floor) How do I replace the complete floor!

I found a silver streak trailer that has a dry rotted floor. I can buy it reasonable but my concern is replacing the floor without taking every rivit out of every panel to get to it. Interior is great, walls are good, anyone know of a good easy way to repair this problem! Silver streak is a cousin of air stream. Thanks Wade!
