Vintage camper wheels

I recently bought a 1951 new moon camper.  It is in need of some major work, but the first thing that I am looking for are some wheels to fit it.  It presently has 2 split rim wheels and is missing the other two wheels. As far as I can tell it is a 15x6 5 lug wheel.  The lugs are the 5 1/2 diameter and the center is 4".  One of the problems is that there are little nubs between the studs that the wheel must clear and one centering stud.  I am in need of any help to find what kind of wheels…

More work completed in my Custom Dodge van "Sea Witch"

Been hard at it the last few days. First I fabricated the wooden storage boxes for the side doors. The carpeted the sides and bottoms to keep stuff from rolling around and rattling. Then attached them to the doors then I cut Masonite…

First fix and first deconstruction

Today it was time to start working on the motorhome.  I desperately needed to fix the fuel enclosure as it was broken.  This let in fumes and cold air and just was not safe.  I looked all over the internet for the part and even went to a few local RV parts stores.  No joy!!!  So, I found a cover the could me modified to fit.  It was the right width but it was too tall.  I had to cut it in half and squeeze it together and then I had to cut a hole in the middle.  After all was said and done I…

Added 12 volt system to my 1966 Kit companion!

When my wife and I bought our trailer last year. I noticed that it had 12 volt lights already added to it. What it didn't have was a converter! The previous owner ran all the wires under the dinette seat and had 2 deep cycle batterys wired in series with the 12 volt wires attached to one of the batterys. First thing I did was take the batterys out of the inside of the trailer. Next I went to our local RV store to find out how I could hook up the 12 volt system correctly, He was a great help!…

Sorta Ready

Day 5 - We have been up until midnight most of this week eagerly trying to prep our girl ( still unnamed ) Wigwam for our two -up coming spring break camping trips. We had planned to use our 83 Palomino pop-up, which we have loved... But we are just too excited to not use our new girl. We have washed and bathed her from almost top to bottom and made some adorable additions, like chevron curtains... and cute clock and have filled her shelves and cupboards with dishes and mugs. We are sorta… Continue

More progress

Well the CD/AM/FM I ordered came in damaged so down to Walmart I go .Did not see one like the one I ordered on the shelf but a nice lady was willing to go in the warehouse and found one for me! IT was real ugly putting that player in the dash! I don't care how easy they say the instillation is ,,it is never straight forward! But got it in and it works..the radio anyway have not tried the CD player yet.

Got Dash cover I ordered too and it fits great!

Hopefully today I will go get the…

The story begins here my '66 Aristocrat

I have purchased a '66 Aristocrat Lo-Liner ST from some really nice folks from Loyalton,CA. who had started to refurbish but discontinued the process when they found a smaller aristocrat which suited their plans better. I was excited to get the unit home and start the work on my own process of repair and restoration. So far have serviced the wheel bearings,WOW looked like original grease from '66. brakes were still wired and had some life left,so have left intact for now until I rewire the…

Yesterday finished tearing the dashborad apart

The dash of my Dodge van is in pieces! I tore it apart and repainted the whole thing. Today will attack mounting a new CD/AM?FM radio into the dash. Going to try to carpet the engine cover box . Cut and mounted the new speakers in the fronts of the bed partitions.now have to run the wiring.

Also got the 1inch by 6 inch wooden plank mounted down the center of the ceiling too just waiting for the new dome lights to arrive.  A lot of little details but it is starting to take…

Cabinet for my custom van project

I said I would share some pix of the cabinet I made for my custom van project. The trim work is all rough strips of wood used to get walls ready for paneling I think they are called "Fairing strips"n and luan panels

Each piece was Burnt with a propane torch then stained and sanded and then assembled,

I also cut a piece of Plexiglas for the top to protect it from moisture from sweaty canned drinks-etc.

I love the look of old distressed wood ad this fits nicely with the…

Still at it on my Dodge custom van

Okay finally got the foil backed foam core insulation in the ceiling-it was rough going when the temperature was in the low 20's and it was sleeting. Had to take a few breaks to get my hands warm.

Found a novel idea for my doors that go in front of the bed partition ! I had a set of cast aluminum wall sconces that looked like old wrought iron. I gut of the stem that holds the candle holder- ground down the tabs on the back and center drilled them. I will find a pair of brass or…

Just wondering if there are any RV's with the toilet inside the shower?  It seems like the shower could be larger if they were combined and used as a shower chair.

Attention to details....

I may have mentioned that I was building a storage box/ center console for my Van project. I happened along this old wooden toy box that was the perfect size to fit between my seats. The box itself was trash and pretty beat up with gobbs of hot melt glue in all of the joints because it was falling apart.

I took the box apart and scraped and sanded the glue off of it. Stripped the shelac- sanded it then took my propane torch to it to bring up the grain in the wood then put it all back…
