The rejuvenation continues!!!

Work continues on the rejuvenation of my 1978 Coachman Cadet camper. I am now looking for some suggestions on how best to refinish my stove top. Stove top has surface rust/pits which I have wire brushed down to bare metal. I want to refinish it in a black gloss. I tried a high heat barbeque spray paint and all I'd did was flake off. Sprayed the paint directly on the metal, no primer. Any suggestions on how to prepare surface and what kind of paint to use that will hold up to heat. Was wondering… Continue

Repairing a tail light bulb.

You mean,, Not everyone likes simple jobs?

Take for example, replacing a simple tail light bulb on your RV.

Its not rocket science,, right?  You get the correct screw driver,, after several trips to the tool box,, making you think that you should have brought the tool box with you. You start to unscrew the 1st screw,, and you turn and turn and turn and turn and turn some more,, then turn some more,, stopping to check your progress,,, so far so good,, its not stripped, so you…

To Tackle a plumbing job.

The weather is finally some what predicatble so its time to attack the honey do list, As of to date,, 4,972 pages in small text. Now 4,963 are of a NOT needed immediatly,, like the hot tub/jaccuzzi,pool table, skeet shooting platform and zip line.I have definitly scratched off the olympic sized swimming pool,, apparently you need a permit for that.

I am going to go with full plumbing replacement. This is after I tackled a copper to plastic crimp fitting connector. These are the…

Creative non logical Humor. with a twist of insanity

After reading several new additions to the conversations here,,It seems the warm weather is finally getting here and the folks up north can finally come out of hybernation and can now see their Rigs,,, as not being buried in 20 feet of snow. To go out and see how many family's of varments have taken up winter residency. Hopefully none,, but ya never know,, Do a double check for bears inside,, Ive heard bears are getting smarter,,, they do enjoy the comforts of a queen sized bed, and where…

Rigging a Vent Fan - Cheap Mod

Because I have a lot of things to sort out on my new-to-me-rig, as well as a limited budget, there are some places I'm going to have to make some compromises, at least initially.  Juno came with two ceiling vents, but no fans.  Decided that was something I had to modify, and I did consider replacing them, but ultimately decided for now to rig fans into the opening.  This is by no means either pretty or convenient, but it's workable and will save me about $400 I can spend elsewhere.…

Yes, poltergeist do exist

I had posted about my previous gas water heater being possessed by evil demons, a.k.a. poltergeist. RV guy, totally tore it apart. Flushed the channels and compartment. Installed every component with new out of the box. Hooked gas up to it, set regulator pressure and flipped it on. Of course it was just a teaser for a few minutes till the evil demons decided to show themselves, irractic flame, burps, hick ups, then poof, flame out and several failed attempts to restart. He has confirmed that…

Wonderful weather for tinkering.

Refrigerator Repair - Trav'ler by Elixir

Ok, so I have this 1976 Tioga Sportsman which has been really good to me. I bought this thing in 2014 while I was working in Oregon. I have since driven it back to my home state of Texas and have it parked in my back yard with all the amenities hooked up it. It is a real conversation piece when my friends and family come over to visit and I tell them that me and my wife have lived in it. Anyways.....I am really starting to ramble here, and the real reason I am blogging is to cover another…

Newer RV updates

I had the pleasure of talking with a bonafide RV restoration specialist.

He restores vintage and New RV's and everything in between.

I learned a lot from just spending the day about the difference from a by gone time to newer technology. He explained ,,as most of us know that the Older RV's were built to last,, like Dads old Chevy.. to last 20 plus years,, with quality, proud workmanship in each model. Time goes on and manufacturers were falling into a slump with RV sales…

Maintenance on my Genset

Being somewhat anal retentive at times with making sure maintenance is kept up, I had the ever so familiar brain flauntulance moment. I look at my check sheet for the things that need attending to and for some reason I had forgot the test run of my genset. It was only 3 months since last fired up. ( I know, I already stood in the corner with my dunce cap on). I go out, take the cover off it, dust off a few cobwebs, turn the fuel on, flip the run switch on, and pull, and pull, and pull, and…

Playing with Power Tools (& Step Solutions)

Pretty day today, but rain tomorrow so postponed (yet again) un-tarping to start cleaning off the corner trim to reseal.  Some progress however - our handyman put in a new gate this week to make it easier to get in and out of the yard and he's going to quote me to put in a gravel pad and a carport.

Today I tackled the steps.  The bottom one wants to sag forward, and it would take some serious metalwork to try to fix that at the pivot, so I bought a simple metal step brace…

Teardrop trailer

Build it and they will come.

I just placed my order for the Axle and springs for my new summer project. This summer I will be building my first Tear Drop trailer from the ground up.  I'll be making a 6'x10' frame out of 2"x3" rectangular tubing. It will include a 6'x9' 6" high storage below the main cabin.  Inside finish will be a log cabin décor. AC/heat, tunes, 120 volt and 12 volt,  10 gallons of water with a sink .I'll post updates as I go. Once done stand back take some pictures and…

Who should OWN an RV?

Hello again, from the mid section of Texas.

A few of us old timers, sitting around enjoying the beautiful evenings we have had these last few days ,talking  RV shop and about the wimmin folk. But we are going to omit the wimmin folk talk and get right down to a very important subject... Who should actually OWN an RV?

Technically anyone who wants one can Own an RV,, But there should be an application form of some sorts. Now don't get me wrong,,, The RV life whether it be part…
