The first thing I decided to tackle inside was washing everything down and begin by painting the walls to get rid of the dated wall paper. We went with olive and chocolate brown as our colors. This way I could do a Tuscan theme, but still have colors that would be camping/dog friendly. We have two black labs, so no light pastel colors for us, I wanted it to be dog & man friendly for my husband.
The insides of all the cabinets were painted the same color as the walls, a…

1985 Winnebago Chieftain. Generator starts using starting fluid and runs for a few seconds fine. Checked Fuel line and nothing is in it : ) Fuel pump is making normal noise and vibration. Is there a switch somewhere or a valve that I need to turn on. It takes fuel from the same tank as the rig and I have fuel (1/4 tank only). Does the RV have priority and once it drops below a certain point, stops feeding the generator? Any input would be appreciated mucho.

If you recall, my RV has been sitting for around 6 years with a bad engine. I bought it for basically nothing. The owner said everything works, and so far he has been 100% correct. He also said he put Stabil in the 80 gallons of fuel when the engine failed. But, the generator would not run unless I put the fuel supply into a 5-gallon container of fresh gas. Today, I decided to siphon 5 gallons of the "bad" gas out of the RV. I dipped the generator feed into the "bad" gas. Holy cow it runs.…

Took a trip last summer to Winchester, Va. in the Telstar dolly towing the commuter Saturn . Had a good time in the area. Couldn't visit Skyline drive due to it being closed at the time. So instead we traveled down highway 11 until we came upon an accident that was requiring closure of Rt. 11 so we decided to go over to the West side of the mountains and continue down towards the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Got to do some sight seeing on the Parkway until we began to run into some heavy fog…

The reason the rest of the country is covered in snow is because a high pressure ridge is sending all the west coast moisture up to the arctic, freezing it, and dumping it back down on the mid-west and east coast. So, the best place to store a RV right now is outside, where nothing changes day after day.
The problem is there will be no water in the lakes or rivers we camp at, fires will burn our forests, and increased water rates will use up our camping money.
Other than that,…

I decided to write a short how to blog instead of a film strip. People can take their time to read and look at the photo's at their own speed. In the spring of 2013 I started working on the water system in "The Queen". The fresh water tank was just gross. The price for a new one was a little steep. So I figured if I screw it up I'll buy a new one. If I can make it work I'll save…

Ok, another Blob bringing up a subject I have seen on this and other RV sites.
A combo unit, 12 volt and 120 volt lighting fixture. An RV parts distributor did have a few that he had sold years ago. They were designed for custom rebuilds. RV manufactures didnt install them due to liability issues with people installing the wrong bulbs. (household style lightbulb, but 12 volt, into the 120 socket). They did have a combo unit on the market a few years back that had 120 fluorescent twin…

Well, a couple weeks ago, my wife and I, traded our '89 Telstar Champion in for an '06 Forest River Lexington RV. We had enjoyed the Champ very much as it was our first RV and took it a several adventures. However, it had some issues that no matter how much I tried, I couldn't solve. The main one was its musty smell, my wife has a most sensitive sense of smell and it was quite strong for her. We got used to it after a few hours on the road, but it permeated everything inside. So when we saw…

I started this transformation by pulling all the old flooring up and sanding the floor. It was in relatively good condition so it didn't take long. There were, luckily, no holes to patch. I then painted the floor with chain link fence paint.
Here is a picture after the paint was put down. I did two coats.…

I just had to share this info.
I have a friend who replaced his rooftop a/c unit 3 times in 5 yrs, and as he said, he could have bought another RV with what he spent on replacement a/c units.
I joked with him one day about retrofitting a window a/c unit to a roof mount.
Well, he said we need to work on that idea. So,, with old rooftop a/c removed, we set a $99. wallymart 5,K btu window unit up on top. Then we estimated and guestimated what we would need for duct work.…

I was asked by a few friends over the years,, what do I look for when buying a used RV,,,Motor home, trailers. (which includes bumper pulls and 5th wheels).
I first look at over-all structure. Looking for damage, especially water damage.
I walk around the outside looking at the siding , and looking underneath at the under carriage. This will include, holding tanks (if equipped).
I will check the tank drain valves for easy movement and any leakage.
I look at the…

Hi Everyone,
I am new to the Site and wanted to introduce myself and our vintage rv. We purchased (new to us) a 1988 27ft. motorhome and we are currently painting and fixing it up. I look forward to sharing our photos as we work thru our remodeling, as well as enjoying looking at your photos and learning from you.
I've included a few photos of how the rv looked when we first brought her home. Here she is:…

Well here we are we sold our classic cars (1959 Rambler Ambassador Cross Country and 1957 Ford F-100) back in California, so since we did not have any projects anymore decided to purchase another car, while looking we found and interesting ad for a 1973 AVCO MH, it was about 2 hours away from us so we decided to take a look over the weekend if it had not sold by then. Lucky for us the MH was still there and we fell in love with it, it is all original and almost everything works, we purchased…
